THE STEEL FACTORY

Originally a bustling metalwork factory, this Shoreditch warehouse has been thoughtfully transformed while preserving its industrial heritage. Our design approach focused on retaining and enhancing key original features, including the steel beams and columns, to honour the building’s history. At the heart of our philosophy is the belief that memories of the past should coexist with the demands of modern living an ethos we bring to life through design.

Our client, a musician, envisioned a home that felt authentic to its industrial roots. To achieve this, we reinstated raw, textural elements while reconfiguring the layout for greater functionality. The expansive family bathroom was reduced in footprint, allowing us to introduce both a dedicated cloakroom and a utility room adjacent to the kitchen. The guest bedroom, originally without an en-suite, was reimagined by optimising space at the end of the wide corridor resulting in a generously sized bathroom featuring a reclaimed Victorian freestanding bathtub.

A key requirement was the seamless integration of a music studio within the living space. This was accomplished through the strategic use of an acoustic perimeter curtain, offering both flexibility and sound control.

The kitchen, a striking focal point, features our custom-designed backsplash with a raw, organic-edged detail in Italian Luana Rosso marble, enhancing the home’s industrial authenticity while adding a touch of refined craftsmanship.

The client was also very happy to explore warmer colour choices, which worked beautifully in this environment, enhancing the dramatic industrial aesthetic.
